MACC Racers and Race Fans,
This is your President, Drew Hilger. I am excited to announce we will be racing this weekend. While Boyne has been fighting the good fight with Mother Nature, Superbowl and FIS will not be race ready this weekend. The good news is Boyne has been gracious enough to give us space on North Boyne to race both days this coming weekend. With that in mind, there will be another group training on North Boyne so we will need to share the hill. This means North Boyne will be for inspection and racing only. No free skiing or warm up runs on the race hill. Registration will be in the lower level of the Civic Center, and we have new bibs this year, so everyone will need to check in and pick up their bib.
I am sad to report our dear friend Steve Coatney will be retiring from MACC. Many know Steve yet no one knows the amount of time he has put into delivering results for every race MACC has held in this millennium (and many before that). While we wish Steve the best, he will be sorely missed. Chuck White has agreed to step into his role. While Chuck is extremely capable, he has very large shoes to fill. Please be patient with us through this transition.
Here is the latest news you need to know for this weekend:
Bibs – Please pick up your bib at the registration table in the basement of the Civic Center on Saturday morning (or Sunday). Your bib number has already been assigned and loaded in the database, so your bib number has already been set. There will not be any swapping on Saturday morning. This also means that late registrants will be written in on the results sheets. This will not impact final results, world cup points or team scoring, but your name may look funny on the wall where results are posted.
Lift Tickets – The Mountain Express has fixed RFID scanners, so having your lift ticket always will be important. No matter how nice you are the machine does not understand that you do have a lift ticket, but it is in your coat at the top of the hill.
Volunteers Needed – Boyne has been gracious enough to accommodate us and they will be putting up a lot of B-Netting to keep us safe. We would like to organize a big crew to help take this down on Sunday after racing. Many hands make light work. Thank you in advance.
Green Cards – A sign of returning to normal. Green cards will again be available at the registration table in the lower level of the civic center and will be required for all work assignments. The only exception to this is Directors and Gate Judges. Gate Judges can submit their gate judge card as evidence of their work assignment.
Awards – Another sign of returning to normal is the reopening of the Snowflake. Our awards will return to the Snowflake on Saturday at 5 pm. See you in the Snowflake on January 21st!
Registration – Registration will be in the lower level of the Civic center. Office hours for registration will be from 8:00am to 9:15am and from 11:30am to 12:00pm (Saturday & Sunday).
Cashless – Boyne is now a cashless resort, so bring your credit cards for lift tickets, food, drinks, etc. If you only have cash you can take it to the Mountain Grand Lodge and purchase a Boyne Gift Card.
Cash – Start saving your cash and clearing off your patio. We are planning to have a raffle at the banquet again this year, and Boyne has promised a Chairlift Swing. Tickets will only be sold at the banquet, but the more you buy, the better your odds of winning. Just think, this time next year, you could be falling off the chairlift in your own backyard.
Thank you for being a part of MACC and please keep doing your snow dance. I look forward to seeing everyone on the hill this Saturday!
Drew Hilger
